• Square shell coasters •

I wrote this pattern and hope you’ll love it as much as I do.

Hook according to the yarn of your choice.

I used a Light Fingering / 3 ply yarn and 2.5 hook.

ch – chain  •   sc – single crochet   •   dc – double crochet  •  sl st – slip stitch

Make a circle:  Ch 4 ,  join with sl st.

  1. ch 1, *sc, 5 dc*, repeat * * 3 more times, sl st  in first sc (4 shells).
  2. ch 2 (this is the first dc), in same st 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc (this is the first shell of round 2),  *sc in 3rd dc,  in next sc work  3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc*,  repeat   * * 2 times, sc in 3rd dc, sl st in top of the first dc of round 2 made with the ch 2 (4 shells).
  3. sl st to corner (the ch 2 space between the pair of  3dc of the shell), ch1,  sc in in same space, in next sc make *3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc*, 2 sc in next corner*, repeat * * 3 times but in the last repetition don’t do the sc, just sl st in 1rst sc (8 shells, four 5dc shells and four 3dc ch2 3dc shells)
  4. ch 2, 4 dc in same stitch, *sc in 2nd dc, 3 dc – ch2 -3 dc in corner, sc in 2nd dc, 5dc between the 2sc*, repeat * * 2 times, sc in 2nd dc, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in corner, sc in 2nd dc, sl st with top of first dc (the ch2 of the begininning of this round). IMPORTANT: if you’re using thick yarn at this point maybe you have a good size for a coaster. You can stop here and finish it with a sc round.
  5. sl st to 3rd dc , ch 1, sc in same st, *5 dc in next sc, sc in 2nd dc, 3 dc – ch2 -3 dc in corner, sc in 2nd dc, 5dc in sc, sc in 3rd dc *, repeat 3 times, but in last repetition don’t do do the last sc, just sl st in 1rst sc (16 shells).
  6. ch1 sc all around, sl st.

Enjoy!
